The Board of the Westmont Public Library is made up of seven elected members of the community. The role of the Board is:
To guide the mission of the library, its goals, and services.
To assure adequate funding to achieve the Library’s mission.
To oversee library policy.
To employ a Library Director.
To understand library issues, community needs, and related legislation.
Additionally, Trustees are expected to:
Attend 12 meetings a year, special meetings when called by the president, executive sessions when necessary.
Sit on a standing committee and attend meetings as necessary.
Follow parliamentary procedure of Robert’s Rules of Order in all meeting.
Attend training as required by the State of Illinois including Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act.
File Statement of Economic Interest form with the DuPage County Clerk as required by all Illinois publicly elected officials.
Read and understand the by-laws and policies of the Westmont Public Library.
Be an ambassador and advocate for the Westmont Public Library.
As current trustees, we adhere to these roles and responsibilities and take them seriously, understanding what falls within the scope of our job and what is outside of it and the responsibility of the Director or other Library staff. These responsibilities are set by the Bylaws and by Illinois State Statue.
